Slick Rock Falls

For a short 2 mile roundtrip, you can view Looking Glass Rock’s face from a different perspective on the Slick Rock Falls trail. Hike past a roaring waterfall to the base of Looking Glass Rock. For those that don’t want the hike, Slick Rock Falls can be viewed from the trailhead.

Park along FR 475B, a well maintained gravel road. From the trailhead, Slick Rock Falls is clearly heard and can be viewed through the trees. However, during drier times, the falls will become just a trickle. Walk up the steps and past the trailhead info signs. A side trail quickly splits off the main path for a better view of the falls. Here you can walk right down to the base of falls.

Continue on the main trail. After an initial quick elevation gain, the trail become more level, following the creek feeding Slick Rock Falls and passing several camp sites along the way. The last .3 miles become more difficult, gaining over 300 feet in elevation along roots and rocks.

Just before reaching the end, the trail enters a small boulder field and dies out. This may be due to the number of fallen trees. If you look straight ahead, you will see the yellow blaze at the top of the boulders. Either navigation your way up or find a slightly easier route around to the left, although it may mean crawling under the large fallen tress if they are still there. Arrive at the base of Looking Glass Rock. This is predominantly a rock climbing area, but still worth the short hike just for the views from the bottom. Explore around the side trails along the base before heading back the way you came.

Nice Short Hike
This definitely shouldn't be your main hike, but a nice additional one when you have a few hours of daylight left. The waterfall can be impressive or just a trickle and right at the beginning of this hike. The rest of the trail takes you to the southern base of Looking Glass Rock and the last time I was there the trail kinda disappeared among some large boulders just before the end.
