Fort Mountain Big Rock Trail

The Big Rock Trail in Fort Mountain State Park is a short, simple hike that makes a loop with the longer Gahuti Backcountry Trail to a series of waterfalls. Great for those that are looking for something easy but still fun.

Begin the hike across the road from the small parking lot. The yellow-blazed trail drops a little over 100 feet on the way to the falls, connecting with the orange-blazed Gahuti Backcountry Trail along the way. Keep to the right.

At .3 miles the hike descends a rocky section to arrive at several cascading waterfalls along Goldmine Branch. Trail trails travels along the falls, heading up a steep set of steps before leaving the Gahuti trail, again keeping to the right.

Follow the trail back to the road. The trail doesn't make a complete loop so you'll have to walk along the road back to the parking lot to the right, but crossing the road first allows plenty of room without actually being on the road.

Notes
Stop by the Trading Post and Visitor Center at the entrance to the park for maps, restrooms, drinks, snacks, and merch.
The trail is quite rocky in a few places.
The trail begins with you crossing the road from the parking lot and ends with you walking along the road a short distance. There's not too much traffic along the road, but always listen for cars coming around the corner.

Nice Short Hike
This is a nice little hike. Several small waterfalls. Combine this with other trails and activities in the park for a longer day of fun and adventure.
