Red Top Mountain Iron Hill Loop

The Iron Hill mixed use loop trail at Red Top Mountain State Park offers hikers and mountain bikers an opportunity to just relax and enjoy the outdoors. Great for families, this trail is wide, well maintained, and relatively flat.

From the trailhead, the path immediately splits to the left and right to begin the loop. The trail is a mix of gravel and compacted dirt. It’s wide and easily followed. Throughout the hike, other “roads” and paths intersect and converge into the Iron Hill trail. At each of these intersections, there will be brown and white signs with arrows pointing the way as well as blue blazes on the surrounding trees to further identify the correct path.

The majority of the hike follows the contour of the shoreline, allowing for plenty of winter views of Lake Allatoona. Several bridges provide unobstructed views as well. While along lake shore sections, look for side trails leading down to individual beaches.

This is also a mountain bike trail, but the lack of elevation change keeps many bikers looking for other options. At the same time, this is also why the trail is popular with joggers and dog walkers.

Notes
The trail has several intersections with Iron Hill Cove Road, which also looks like a trail. There are also a couple side trails. For each of these intersections, signs are posted pointing you in the right direction.

Relaxing Loop
This is a great loop if you just want a relaxing hike without any elevation change. Wide path. Views of Lake Allatoona. Just a really nice hike.
